Increased uptake can be seen in the left hip region following a recent hip replacement following traumatic fracture. Increased uptake in the adjacent soft tissues is presumably associated with tissue repair and associated inflammatory response following surgery. An infectious component cannot be excluded as well. Artifacts created on the CT image by the metallic prosthesis can also lead to artifacts when it is used for attenuation correction. Inspection of the uncorrected images will help resolve this.
